Too Many Twitters

Again, it has been a while since my last update. I used to be somewhat consistent with this blog. Key term "used to be..." but considering that the first couple of months working on Green Cheeks was just researching my business, the industry, and so on - I easily could hop on here to write something. Now, not so much.

An unfortunate twist to this is that I have become absorbed in Twitter. And it's not because it's addictive. On the contrary, I never could get into the social networking sites. It's almost a forceful action (like a chore), or a way to kill time rather than an enjoyable activity.

Actually, I think that Twitter is the equivalent of a busy person's blog (or an equally lazy person). It's 140 characters, or a 30 second update (even less, actually) about "What are you doing?"... even what you are thinking, hating, loving, complaining or explaining. Sometimes it's completely useless banter.

Over the past few weeks, I have made a personal Twitter account and a Green Cheeks account. Both are easy enough to update, but I am debating the usefulness of the personal one. Who really cares about my personal banter? I don't think my fiance does... and he lives with me. My random updates don't improve anything in my life (maybe as venting), they don't have a monetary value, and hardly anyone replies - so effectively there is no social value either.

However, there is incredible potential for the Green Cheeks twitter. I have been tweeting about eco-friendly clothing, about building Green Cheeks and about anything that I considered useful regarding the industry ("green" retailing). And from what I can tell, it's feeding some traffic to the Green Cheeks website. Too bad I still do not have products to sell, lol

Point is, I don't know what the "return" on the time that I have spent on Twitter is. Is it more or less effective than advertising? Everything I read about the "phenomenon" of Twitter says it's a great promotional tool. But I don't know. As it is, I feel like I've spent too much time on it. So I will be cutting back, especially on my personal account.

On a side note: I finally found a local (Austinite) designer who is going to do a line of intimates for Green Cheeks. Her name is Valeri and her brand is called Jinxedaposed. She is awesome, believes in her work and is totally enthusiastic about creating new designs. She works with local fabric vendors (when possible), calls her eco-friendly ambitions "kind of hippie" and is working on building a name for herself in NY. An added plus: Her line will be ready in about two weeks. I can't wait!
